When students begin to fill the paths of college campuses and children pack up their bags and head off to the local school, much changes. Individuals have to commit more time to homework and their studies, and the weather often signifies that shift. Whether you’re a member of a major university in Texas or you pass by a school on a daily basis, keeping some driving tips in mind can save a life.
Driving near Schools
Many schools have different speed limits in their immediate areas. Make sure that you pay attention to the signage and to when the different speed limits apply. For example, the sign may say that the limit applies during school days from early in the morning until early in the evening. Keep in mind that most of these signs apply even if school is not in session. Knowing the local law is imperative in avoiding tickets and, more importantly, protecting the lives of the children who attend the school.
College Student Drivers
Some students are driving to school for the first time. If that is you, learn the parking requirements at your school before the first day of classes. Otherwise, you might find yourself dangerously rushing around to find a spot. If you are not a new driver bringing yourself to and from school, remember that some people are. Exercise extra patience on the road during this time.
Driving While Intoxicated
As the first parties of the year come into fruition, you may want to attend them all. Remember that getting behind the wheel of a car while drunk is dangerous and illegal and that consuming alcohol if you are under 21 years of age is illegal as well. Even when you pay attention to the laws, keep in mind that some people do not. Drive with extra care; try to stay off the roads late at night and early in the mornings, especially on weekends. If you have kids who are in high school or college, discuss the dangers of driving while intoxicated.
Driver’s Education
Many students are also signing up for driver education classes. If you see a car near you noting that the person is a student driver, have some patience. You may want to honk at the drivers because you feel as though they are not driving swiftly enough. Think back to your own days of learning how to operate a vehicle. You were probably nervous too. These drivers are just trying to operate a car in the safest way.
The end of summer and beginning of fall give birth to many things, and a series of considerations when it comes to driving is one of them.
